从海岸到悉尼，空中航程679公里，坐上飞机，一个小时就到了。悉尼是新南威尔士洲的首府，新南威尔士洲位于澳大利亚的东南部，面积有80万平方公里，占澳大利亚全部国土面积的十分之一。富饶的沿海地带有澳大利亚最好的牧场，1900公里长的海岸线上有许多白色的沙滩、平静的港湾和浓密的热带雨林。新南威尔士的内陆是沙漠，雪山，牧羊场，还有淘金时代留下的沉睡的村庄和鬼城。除了首府悉尼，新南威尔士还有许多小城市。

 出国以来的第一个雨天，恰是在风光旖旎的悉尼。上午出门去悉尼歌剧院（ SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE 
）时，正逢淅淅沥沥下个不停的牛毛细雨。举世闻名的悉尼歌剧院位于该市北部悉尼湾的贝奈龙广场（ BENNELONG 
PT），东边毗邻皇家植物园，北临悉尼湾，西对岸是1932年建造的、全长505米、高134米的悉尼港湾大桥（SYDNEY HARBOUR 
BRIDGE）。站在任何一个角度看，面对的任何一个入口就象一个张开的贝壳，整个建筑就象一组贝壳复盖在海岛上。这座剧院由著名华裔建筑设计师贝聿明设计，于1959年3月动工
